Devlog #1

WELCOME TO HOST_

Starting Off

This is our group project for KIT207 that we will be working on in the coming weeks. Progress is slow but steady and we hope to produce a fun and cool experience for everyone to try out. This will be the first of our weekly devlogs posted to show our progress throughout the project.

Enemy Models

Models for all three classes have been designed.

Light

Medium

Heavy

Environment

The environment in HOST_ is something that we wanted to make fairly unique so there has been a decent amount of experimentation done with different visuals. There are two main effects added that we’ve been tinkering with to see how well they fit the artistic vision of the game.

Line post-processing: this still a bit unpolished but definitely helps with the visual clarity of the game seeing as majority of the world is planned to be monochrome.

Toon shader:  it is undecided if this is a desired style the game will utilize and we will continue to play around with it until the decision is made.

Game Functionality

The core functionality of the game, being swapping from host to host, is something that majority of the experience revolves around therefore that was the definite starting point decided. This was quickly implemented after laying out some ground work allowing us to further expand upon/experiment with different parts of the game such as cinemachine camera movement, and health functionality such as host draining and being hit by bullets. This is the result at this point in time .

UI

The player health bar design has been finalized and implemented. The original concept was too rounded and didn’t really fit with the angular environment. Our new design was made to look like a ram stick from the robot you have taken control of. The portion with the lightning bolt signifies when the player is able to switch hosts. This will light up once their health has dropped into that portion.

A score UI was also added, it’s still uncertain if this is something we want to keep or not. It was designed to resemble the error code displays that are on some motherboards.

Audio

We wanted to get some basic audio added so we made a Sound Manager script that can play sound effects and music.

Sounds added:

Thanks for reading and see you next week!
